Thesis

Rose Dowling works within the editorial fashion/ portraiture realm. Her photographs feature a strong sense of femininity, reflecting her upbringing, heavily influenced by strong women.

This body of work focuses on the effects of aging and beauty within my family, namely the three generations of women in it who each live alone and have developed a reliance on one another. As the youngest, I use this project to visually study the women who shaped my upbringing and independence. By using both archival family photographs (most taken before I was born) and new portraits of each member, the work formulates a narrative on how aging and beauty can become blurry when it comes to our memories of loved ones, as if time stands still.
