dreaming about splitting a snake in half
Jumana Moughrabi is a photographer based in New York City and is part of Unbound Collective. Within her practice she explores themes of the home and private spaces through self documentation while focusing on aspects of memories and identity.
dreaming about splitting a snake in half utilizes personal documentation as an exploration of the different ways in which violence could be seen throughout the everyday. While contextualizing past memories of witnessing domestic abuse, the images question how cycles of violence can be inherited from a parent and later seen as a pattern reborn into the mundane.
This pattern manifests itself throughout different situations and locations, attaching itself to both living and nonliving subjects as their roles of witness and perpetrator shift within the images. In turn violence then becomes a being which is seen and represented in both physical and emotional states of the violent cycle which follows.
