Slow Motion

Michael Chandler and Charlie Rubin

March 1 – 22, 2018

Opening Reception

March 1, 2018   6:00 – 8:00 PM

John Doe, 112 Waterbury St, Brooklyn 11206

John Doe is pleased to present Slow Motion, featuring works by Michael Chandler and Charlie Rubin, on view from March 1 to 22, 2018. The exhibition showcases the work of two artists from two different generations who divergently deliver meditative, vivid abstractions. Chandler makes visceral paintings founded in nature but informed by the rhythm of the city and Rubin twists the routine by reshaping his pictures in form, context and presentation.

Rubin’s images explore the artifice of place, and the post-Instagram void. In this series, rather than seeking out the exceptional moment, he creates it, altering images by adding layers, physically and digitally, on top of his photographs. The lines are blurred between what is natural and unreal, what is ordinary and extraordinary—and as such, everyday settings trip, creating fantasy-like, subverted, observations.
