Using human beauty, desire, Eros and sexuality, this beautifully curated exhibition organized by Peter Weiermair seeks to reveal that cultural differences, whether defined by national borders, sexual orientation, or gender identification, can be at the same time vast but familiar. Peter says, “I think that photography presents a vast array of the aesthetic strategies of contemporary artists. Photography is the medium of desire. The beauty of desire is evident in the work of all of these artists.”
Through study and repetition, Yatrofsky examines a contemporary identity in both series, I Heart Boy and I Heart Girl, while investigating the human form—its masculinity, femininity, and its androgyny. Each subject in these series is depicted in a straightforward but intimate manner, both clothed and nude, and sometimes in pairs, representing the collective shift of the human image and exploring gender in the current cultural landscape.
