Current MFA student Jenna Petrone (’18) is exhibiting in “Semiotics: Rhetoric of an Artwork” at the Carrie Able Gallery in Williamsburg. The exhibition runs from October 18th-December 10th.
“How does meaning get into the image?” Artists of this show tried to reply to this question from the philosopher and semiologist Roland Barthes with their artwork. They illustrate how artists included writing, narration, communication in their artwork, or chose not to do it.
Jenna Petrone depicts the themes of relationships, individuality, meditations on light and interiors, and urban environments through an array of photographic narratives. In Subject to Change, she informs the viewer through the overarching visual threads included in her intimate images of individuals in their homes. She also uses ethnographic research methods to inform the social elements of her photographic practice.
