On the occasion of a new book and exhibition featuring her latest body of work, Ametsuchi, join Rinko Kawauchi for a talk on her career and her photographs. Kawauchi, who lives and works in Tokyo, first gained notoriety with the sensational, simultaneous publication of three books: UTATANE, HANABI, and HANAKO (2001). With these works, she became recognized for her uncanny ability to photographically transform everyday details into significant existential ruminations. Since her debut, Kawauchi has published numerous monographs, including critically acclaimed Illuminance (Aperture, 2011), and has been widely exhibited at major institutions across the world.
