On February 23, please join our MFA student Luma Jasim who has been invited to participate on a panel organized by ATOA (Artists Talk on Art) at the National Arts Club.

“The Artist’s Role in Society”

Ronald Feldman, director of Ronald Feldman Gallery will be the moderator of the panel.

Other Panelist for this event are:

Mari Biro, is a painter, sculptor whose work focuses on the artist’s role as a catalyst for social change. She is the author of ‘One Artist’s Struggle against THE INVISIBLE ENEMY’, a self published memoir. Mari is the curator and director of The Sunset House of Art, a museum she founded in 2009.

The panelists for this event are:

Luma Jasim, was born in Baghdad, Iraq where she majored in graphic design. She was a director in animation in Baghdad and Istanbul for 10 years. Presently, she’s enrolled in Parsons School of Design for her second Masters degree in Fine Arts. Luma’s work reflects her experience with war, violence and immigration. Her work has been shown and exhibited in Baghdad, Istanbul, Japan, and the US.

Marcia Annenberg, her work consists of paintings, sculpture, installations and videos that focus on under reported stories in American media. Marcia participated on panels at Princeton University’s Bernstein Gallery and Flomenhaft Gallery in NYC. She has been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the US, London, Jerusalem and Lithuania.

Hhu, was born in Incheon, Korea where he received his BFA degree in sculpture at Hongik University. He acquired skills in industrial techniques, such as welding and woodworking, as well as in the usage of chemical substances that shaped his work involving the abstraction of human organs. Hhu’s work also discusses the decline of social values.
