Advanced Practice: Contemporary Video

Thursday 7:00pm – 9:40pm

In this class, students will be equipped with the technical and artistic tools to conceptualize and produce their video works. We will work with cameras, light, sound, editing, and post-production, and each student will spend time developing a video project and/or video installation. Students will learn methodologies of how to translate and incorporate a wide range of artistic disciplines, on-line media, and performance within a video work. We will also study the contemporary practices of video art and filmmaking through screenings of video works by John Acomfrah, Hito Steyerl, Isaac Julien, Camille Henrot, Anri Sala, Omer Fast, and Ryan Trecartin.

Faculty Bio:

Stefanos Tsivopoulos is an interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker who has exhibited extensively in art institutions and film festivals worldwide. In 2013 he represented Greece at the 55th Venice Biennial with the multimedia installation History Zero. He has also exhibited in documenta 14, Kassel, Germany, in 2017; the 2nd Beijing Biennial, in 2014; and Manifesta 8, Murcia, Spain, in 2010. Other group exhibitions include Tate Modern, London; MACBA, Barcelona; MUKHA, Antwerp; Kunsthaus, Zurich; Bundeskunsthalle Bonn; Haus Der Culturen Der Welt, Berlin; SALT, Istanbul; BAK Basis voor Aktuele Kunst, Utrecht; LEEUM, Samsung Museum of Art, Seoul; and the Centre Pompidou Paris, among others.
