Parsons Faculty Shadi Harouni’s solo exhibition in Naples, “An Index of Undesirable Elements” Is On Display Now

Galleria Tiziana Di Caro will be hosting the first solo exhibition in Italy of New York based artist and Parsons faculty, Shadi Harouni, entitled An Index of Undesirable Elements.

The works on display, which range from sculptures to videos, photographs, monoprints, texts and a piece reminiscent of a half-lit store sign that greets the viewers as they enter the gallery, are all rooted in the history of her native Iran; Harouni engages in a play with language and form to connect this history to a universal experience of loss, repression, recovery and defiance. Her work centers on the politics of space and of the gaze, and the tension between the moment of revealing and that of concealment. Her work often evokes a relationship between fullness and cavities, taut with the tension of hiding and the desire to reveal.
