Artist’s Reception: September 24th, 5-8 pm
Open Studios: Sept. 24th, 12-8 pm & Sept. 25th, 12-6 pm

MFA alumn Joiri Minaya’s work has made her aware of her own difference and subjectivity depending on context. Her current work focuses on challenging the construction of the female subject in relation to nature and landscape in a “tropical” context, shaped by a foreign Gaze that demands leisure and pleasure.

Smack Mellon offers the unique opportunity to enter Minaya’s studio and that of her fellow artists in the Open Studio exhibit this weekend. Minaya and the fellowship artists will be there to discuss their work in person.
