Talk Title: The colonial animal

Fernando do Campo is currently in New York undertaking a research residency supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, Create NSW, and UNSW Art + Design to develop new work for upcoming projects in Tasmania. His research here will return to a historical discovery from his MFA at parsons, responding to the first successful introduction of house sparrows into the Americas in 1856. This project is being developed in partnership with the Green-wood Cemetery, Prospect Park Alliance, Brooklyn Historical Society and the Brooklyn Museum.

 
Fernando do Campo (b. Mar del Plata, Argentina 1987) is an artist based in Sydney where he is Associate Lecturer at UNSW Art + Design. Since 2015 he also produces work as the HSSH (House Sparrow Society for Humans) an entity that re-narrates the history of non-human animals via anthropomorphism, speculative fiction and archival research. Fernando has presented solo exhibitions in Australia and the USA and group exhibitions internationally. He is a Sir General John Monash Foundation Scholar. He has received grants from the Australian Regional Arts Fund, Arts Tasmania, Ian Potter Cultural Trust, Australia Council for the Arts, Create NSW and The New School. Fernando is currently undertaking the PhD program at MADA, Monash University with the support of a RTP and a Monash Graduate Excellence Scholarship. Fernando is currently working towards a major commission for the Mona Foma Tasmania 2020, and solo exhibition commission for Contemporary Arts Tasmania, 2021. He is represented by Praxis Gallery, Buenos Aires & New York.
