Faculty Jane Philbrick moderating “Can Science Save Fashion?” Panel at Global Community Bio Summit 3.0, MIT Media Lab

MIT Media Lab, 75 Amherst Street, Cambridge, MA 02139

October 11-13, 2019

Starting October 11, 8:00AM – 6:15PM

Jane Philbrick, artist founder of the community-based development studio TILL (Today’s Industrial Living Landscapes), is moderating the panel “Can Science Save Fashion?” in the Global Community Bio Summit 3.0, October 11-13, 2019, in Cambridge, MA. Organized by the Community Biotechnology Initiative at MIT Media Lab, the Summit convenes practitioners across disciplines and continents. Participants in last year’s Summit 2.0 numbered 350 from an applicant pool of 430. TILL launched the ecological fashion incubator bioFASHIONtech LAB in April 2019, commissioning three recent Parsons School of Fashion graduates – Jacob Olmedo, Gal Yakobovitch, and Yimin Deng – to design and produce capsule collections for debut in the inaugural bFt Summit, June 24, 2019, at the Avon Theatre in Stamford, Connecticut. The capsule collections were developed on site and with the local community in our bFt LAB @Stamford Town Center mall. TILL fiscal sponsorship is provided by the New York Foundation for the Arts; matching funding provided by Innovate Stamford, a program of CTNext. TILL: bFt is a platform for ecological fashion natives — the new generation of designers making planetary well-being not just a goal of our design (i.e., “do less harm”) but the defining impulse of our creative work and framework for its production.
