We will work together to produce images that have been requested by prisoners in and around NYC. These images will be showcased at the SJDC Galleries as part of the Prison Obscura exhibition and portions will be included on the #everydayincarceration instagram feed.

WHEN: February 28th, 10-3:30 PM
WHERE: Start and end at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, Parsons, 2 West 13th Street, NYC
WHO: All are invited! No photography experience is necessary.

Participants will meet at Parsons for a brief orientation. We will then break into groups and head to various locations across the city to produce the requested photographs. On their journey, each group will become its own ‘mobile classroom’ that will facilitate powerful dialogue, interactions and alternative forms of documentary practice. Groups will then return to the gallery to share lunch and reflect on their experiences, the image they created, and any interactions they had along the way. Participating organizations and individuals include Young New Yorkers, Exalt Youth, and the Correctional Association.

Each group will have:

  • ●  1, Artist/photographer
  • ●  1-2, individuals who has been directly impacted by the criminal justice system and/or a

    criminal justice reform advocate

  • ●  1 student from the CUNY courses managing the #everydayincarceration instagram

    page

  • ●  You and other participants
