“Landscape is not a natural feature of the environment but a synthetic space, a man-made system of spaces superimposed on the face of the land, functioning and evolving not according to natural laws but to serve a community.” John Brinckerhoff Jackson

What does the landscape mean to us, especially in an urban space like New York City? How do we think about and interact with the natural environment? Let’s look beyond the scenic view and imagine the possibilities of subjective experience, storytelling, and layers of meaning in the landscape. Lay of the Land explores visual ways to express new directions of thought about landscapes.
