I am an Assistant Professor in AMT, working on a research project with a national community organizing / political organization exploring design and communication in work with explicit social and political aims. The organization is planning to work with mapping, data analysis, and storytelling to inform organizing and campaign planning opposing policing strategies in a mid-size US city. I am seeking an RA to help develop or identify and put into use mapping and database tools for this work, including tools to do quick analysis of news articles, to gather and visualize key aspects of people’s stories of police interactions, local resources, and unmet needs, and to brainstorm mapping ideas and both digital and analog tools and capacities. This project is new and will continue for at least one year or more, so is a great opportunity for anyone with these skills interested in design research and / design in the work of social and political change.
This is a paid RA position, beginning immediately. Hours can depend vary and be set according to the schedule of an ideal candidate, but will likely average 5-10 hours a week. Please contact Shana Agid at agids@newschool.edu.
