Pokuasi, a socially responsible jewelry line started in November 2009 is looking for a Social Media Intern, and a Design and Branding Intern for fall 2010 semester. These unpaid internships offer flexible dates and hours as long as weekly reports are consistent. Academic credit can be given.

Women in Pokuase, a village outside of Accra, Ghana, produce the jewelry according to Alyssa’s designs. As an alternative trading organization, Pokuasi strives for self-sufficiency and sustainability in an industry that is dominated by exploited labor in developing countries.

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNSHIP
We are looking for someone who will be responsible for outreach, particularly online. This will include maintaining a Twitter and Facebook page, finding possible collaborators for upcoming events, or communicating with interested parties online. This intern must be willing to work independently and in a creative way, for we will have flexible meetings and expect much of the work to be done at your convenience. This intern will have the opportunity to make a big impact on this newly established company, and we especially encourage those who are interested in design and technology.

DESIGN AND BRANDING INTERNSHIP
We are looking for someone who will assist the head designer with final production of the jewelry pieces, including assembly, labeling, packaging, and inventory. We encourage those who have experience with assembling beaded jewelry and sewing simple patterns to apply. This intern will have a significant impact on the direction of the final branding and packaging of the line.

Application instructions:
Contact Alyssa Davis at davia317@gmail.com to apply. Please send a cover letter and resume, along with the internship to which you are applying, your earliest start date, and 2-5 examples of 2D or 3D design work (or an example of your work in another field if you have no design experience).
