Parsons Screens Competition
The Parsons’ Sheila C. Johnson Design Center invites time based submissions for the Flat Panel LCD screens on the elevator bank at the corner of 2 W. 13th Street from Parsons students, faculty and staff. We are looking for silent works up to 2 minutes in length that respond to the highly visible, public nature of the space and its function as a waiting area. We are also interested in the ways in which the work responds to or evokes the broader mission of Parsons as a design school.  All Parsons students, Parsons full-time faculty, and part-time faculty who are teaching at least one course in the academic year 2009-2010,  and Parsons staff are eligible to apply. Accepted silent moving image works will be grouped into short looped programs that are shown on the screens.

Submission Requirements: The following materials should be sent to parsons.screens@gmail.com in the body of ONE email by Friday January 15th, 2010 at 12 Noon:
  • Your name, contact information, N#, program and degree, the name and contact information of your program director/coordinator
  • A youtube or vimeo link to your proposed work for review purposes
  • A one-page text document (maximum 500 words) with the project title, an artist statement, a description of the work and an explanation of how it addresses the narrative of the space in which it is sited.  Please consider public usage and attention, visual impact from both the lobby and the street, and the larger context of Parsons as a center of design education.
Please note: The resolution for the final work must be a minimum of standard definition, 720 x 480 pixels.
Deadline: Email submission to parsons.screens@gmail.com by Friday January 15th, 2010 at 12 Noon.
Announcement: Selection will be made and announced by Tuesday February 2nd, 2010.
