Responsibilities:
Parsons, The New School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks a full-time Facilities Manager in the Photography Department of the School of Art, Media, and Technology. The school includes academic programs in Communication Design, Design and Technology, Graphic Design, Photography, Fine Arts, and Illustration. The school has approximately 350 full and part-time faculty and more than over 1,400 students in both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
The primary function of the Facilities Manager is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Photography facilities while providing and maintaining a safe working environment for over 400 students and faculty. This position will also work with the Director of Operations and the Director of Technical Operations with budget tracking, spending, and adjustments. Reporting to the Director of Technical Operations this is an administrative non-union position.
• Management of an Academic Photography Lab including but not limited to:
o The Equipment Resource Center
o Two (2) computers labs with over 30 workstations
o Five (5) shooting studios
o A black and white film and paper darkroom
o A Durst Theta 76 Digital C-Printer
• Management of both a full and part-time technical staff, including student workers
• Overseeing the maintenance and upgrade of technology as it relates to the school’s overall curriculum
• Generating macro and micro levels of usage data and statics for the Director of Technical Operations (DTO)
• Assist the DTO with facilities planning, renovations, and repairs
• Assist faculty with various technical and technology issues as it pertains to the curriculum
• Serve on various University and department committees
Minimum Qualifications:
• A BFA in photography and three (3) years experience working for professional or academic photography labs
• Technical knowledge of Apple Macintosh computers and OS 10
• Comprehensive experience with all digital and film camera formats
• Working knowledge of black and white chemistry
• Ability to easily learn new digital equipment and software
• Working knowledge of color management and inkjet printers
• Knowledge of various strobe and lighting equipment
• Highly detailed organizational skills, working well in a fast paced deadline driven environment
• Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Ability to work well with individuals in a creative environment
• Must be available to work nights and weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
• An MFA in Photography or Studio Arts
