Mengya Xiao’s ‘Moments’ exhibition focuses on portraits of 26 senior professors at Peking University in China. To catch their demeanor in a peaceful daily life, to concretize their personality in a way visually perceivable and to observe the senior generation born at the beginning of 20th century through the lens of a junior generation born at the end of 20th century. You can read more on the exhibition here.

Mengya Xiao is a visual artist based in Beijing. He was born in China in 1991 and received his MFA at Parsons School of Art and Design in New York City in 2016. He employs various forms of art especially special light setting to produce the fantasy of an uncertain visual world. His new photography project “Surface and Depth: Portraits of Professors at Peking University” is exhibiting at Second Floor Gallery, Peking University Hall (PKU Hall), from June 10th to June 17th 2018. He photographed 26 accomplished old professors of PKU under dramatic light settings. The works provide a strange but familiar perspective of each professor in an objective way, showing their personalities at surface and depth.
