Glowing boxes, synthesizers you play with puzzle pieces, and thermometers that tell you when there’s been a sewer runoff. Those are just a handful of the work MFA students in the Design and Technology program at Parsons Then New School for Design showcased last weekend at the 2012 Maker Faire, at the New York Hall of Science in Queens.

Maker Faire is a large energetic gathering of people who love to make things and tinker, not only with electronics, but also with all manner of materials, technology, arts and craft. In the MFA Design and Technology program, there are many makers who create expressive, educational, and entertaining work with an open, do-it-yourself ethos.

This was the first time Parsons had a booth at the Maker Faire. It showcased a spectrum of faculty, current students, and alumni projects. AND we were winners! The Parsons / MFA DT table received two Maker Faire “Educator’s Choice” awards.
