Marshall Chess Club Seeks Archivist/Intern

Title: Archivist/Intern
Part Time/ $15 per hour
Days and hours are flexible/ Weekday afternoons best

The Marshall Chess Club is seeking a student or qualified individual to help us catalog and digitalize photos and documents, and to organize our archives. We are a non-profit organization with a volunteer board that wants to protect the Club’s heritage and history. The intern will assist in scanning hung photos (many of which are in old frames), re-framing and matting photos as needed, and cataloging them. The intern will help research the photos to determine dates and identify the players and events. The intern will advise and assist in preserving and archiving the Club’s other stored photos, documents, artifacts. The student will work with the project leader, Club management, and Board President.

The Marshall Chess Club is located in a historic brownstone on 10th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. The Marshall Chess Club will have its 100 year anniversary in 2014. The Club would like to prepare a book or online gallery of photos to celebrate this milestone.

Student qualifications: technical skills and knowledge of digitalization, Photoshop, and archiving. Student should be available to start by September 15, 2013.
