Senior Graphic Designer

We are looking for a seasoned Designer to contribute to the Make family of products; MAKE magazine, Maker Shed, Makezine and Craftzine. The person should have a demonstrated interest in publication design, and the ability to effectively use Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop in an interesting and compelling way. The Designer will partner with the Senior Art Director to provide designs for our MAKE magazine, iPad apps, web designs and packaging. This position is located at our Sebastopol. CA headquarters office and reports to the Senior Art Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Design engaging magazine layouts using InDesign
Design print advertisements, direct mail pieces, signage, and marketing sales material.
Assist in conceptualizing and designing web page banners
Design packaging and instructional collateral on Maker Shed products and kits
Create web site graphics to enhance the MAKE websites.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Advanced working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop and Illustrator.
Working knowledge of design, design processes and printing processes.
Impeccable attention to detail.
Good knowledge of web design, HTML.
Proficient in Macintosh.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Ability to juggle conflicting priorities; maintain flexibility to allow for last minute changes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four-year college degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media Design, HCI or related area of study, or a combination or relevant education and experience.
5+ years experience in publishing industry (i.e. books, catalogs, magazines, etc).
5+ years experience in working on web-related projects.
