Internship Opportunity
Fall 2012

We are looking for qualified interns to work in the Photography Department of The New Yorker. The internship will allow students to get acquainted with the inner-workings of a weekly publication, and its use of photography.

An interest in photography and the visual arts is desired, but more importantly we are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals, who are curious, and willing to work under pressure. All applicants must readers of The New Yorker’s print magazine as well as the website.

Photo research skills are helpful, as interns will be asked to assist with photo research on a wide range of subjects. Interns will be asked to contribute to our weekly photo blog, Photo Booth, as well as assist with administrative duties. These include: filing, copying, and general assistance to the department. It is crucial that interns be able to take responsibility and prioritize their work. Applicants should be comfortable with Macintosh computers and Adobe Photoshop.

We will consider interns who can devote two or more days a week to the internship, starting as soon as possible. We are also looking for interns who can make a fulltime, five days a week, commitment. Please email or fax a resume, cover letter, indicating which days you are available, and references to Suzanne Shaheen (suzanne_shaheen@newyorker.com, fax: 212/286-5027) as soon as possible, or call with any questions you might have (212/286-7376). Interns will receive a small stipend. Please note that you must be currently enrolled in school in order to be eligible for the internship.
