NEW SCHOOL LEADS CONVERSATION ON THE FUTURE OF LEARNING
The New School’s history of actively addressing the needs and opportunities for higher education in a changing world is as vitally important now as ever. In this spirit, the President and the Office of the Provost have supported MobilityShifts: An International Future of Learning Summit, taking place at The New School October 10-16.

Mobility Shifts brings together 260 presenters from 21 countries. Educators, artists, activists, technologists, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and policy makers are gathering at The New School to explore the implications for education of our increasingly digital world.

MobilityShifts was conceived and organized by Trebor Scholz, assistant professor of culture and media at Eugene Lang College, with collaborators from across The New School and more than a dozen partner universities and organizations (see the full list at www.mobilityshifts.org.) The event is supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Mozilla Foundation.

Highlights include a keynote address on Saturday, October 15 by Eduardo Ochoa, a New School alumnus, the U. S. Under Secretary for Higher Education, and Project SHIFT on Thursday, October 13, a multi-media performance about technology and learning directed by Cecilia Rubino, associate professor of theater at Eugene Lang College.

“Wikipedia and Academia,” “NYC Students Imagine the 2050 Classroom,” and “Hacking as Learning” are just a few of the provocative workshops, discussions, and presentations scheduled throughout the week. MobilityShifts is an opportunity to join colleagues from around the world to debate the emergence of DIY learning, explore new ways of teaching highly mobile students, and challenge the meaning of words like “classroom” and “learning” in a world where access to information is unprecedented.

Registration is free for New School faculty, staff, and students.
