Information Design Internship

Seed is seeking an Information Design Intern to work with its Design team in New York. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working on a wide range of challenging special projects that bring Scientific Thinking™ to life. You will apply your skills to assist in designing custom visualizations and data-driven tools as well as support our research efforts in science and design. You will observe and participate in the building and deployment process.

Recent work has included visualizing large amounts of data to surface new insights, designing state-of-the-art network visualizations, enabling real-time analysis of complex phenomena, the Visualizing.org community platform, and multiple social sector visualizations. Juniors, Seniors and Recent Graduates who are hard-working and passionate about our mission are welcome to apply.

This internship will be a 3 to 6 month paid internship, 20 hours/week for students or full time for recent grads. Job opportunities may be offered to exceptional interns.

Requirements

– You are an upperclassman student working towards a degree in Design or Design and Technology or a recent graduate

– You have a passion for data visualization and are on top of current thinking and trends

– You are curious, love learning new technologies and testing new ideas

– You have experience working with and visualizing data and Design for the Web

– Experience with User Interface Design and Usability are preferred

– Enrollment or successful completion of an Information Design class will give you a significant advantage

– You are eligible to work in the United States

Technical skills we look for

Required:

– Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite especially Adobe Illustrator

– Proficient in typography, color theory and composition

– Understanding the unique challenges of designing with data and working with information architectures

Preferred:

– HTML5 / CSS3

– JavaScript

– jQuery

– Any other programming language, framework or library
