Graphic Design and Filmmaker/Video Internships

The Global Cocoa Project is a high impact poverty alleviation/social enterprise initiative that supports cocoa farmers around the globe by supplying them with the basic tools they need to improve the quality of their cocoa production. Additionally, basic needs will be provided such as wells, latrines and sanitation education; bikes to transport goods to local markets; solar powered lights for community spaces and solar powered lanterns with mobile phone recharging capabilities for home use.

The Global Cocoa Project is looking for a Graphic Design intern and a Filmmaker/Video Intern. See job descriptions below:

Graphic Design Internship:
Those interested will be creating and/or assisting other design professionals in creating all the graphics for the NYC Valentine’s Day 2011 Chocolate Tasting Fundraiser event. The theme will be an ‘Around the World Discovery of Chocolate.’ Cocoa beans, which are the main ingredient in chocolate, come from 55 countries, 20 degrees north and south of the Equator. The tasting will include chocolate from socially responsible companies which source their beans from Ecuador to Madagascar to Bali.

The design project includes establishing the look for the event and promotional materials including labels for the chocolate companies, a printed postcard, pamphlets, brochures, tags, banners, etc. and all the graphics needed for cyber marketing – eVite, Facebook page, Twitter background, etc.

Internship start – end date:
1) ASAP (time commitment to be determined with intern)
2) After your finals until the beginning of Winter Term
3) After your finals until April/May (TBD with intern)

Deadline: Running
Time commitment: 1-2 days or 10 hours a week minimum
Requirements: Strong background in graphic design, proficient knowledge in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign., creative thinker, incredibly detail-oriented, and highly organized.
Compensation: This is a non-paid internship
College/Graduate Credit: Credit is available to students whose departments/schools support this. Please let us know what you will need from us to obtain credit.

Filmmaker/Video Internship:
Those interested will be working on the following:
– Shooting and editing short videos about how chocolate is made and socially responsible chocolate companies working in New York; videos will be uploaded to www.globalcocoaproject.org (undergoing re-design).
– Shooting footage of the NYC Valentine’s Day 2011 chocolate tasting fundraising event (see the following link for our 2009 event: www.globalcocoaproject.org/multimedia)
– Editing interview footage taken of farmers in Côte d’Ivoire in August 2010; footage needs to be edited into small pieces to be included on the website

Requirements: Strong background in shooting and editing video; relevant software including FinalCut Pro and/or equivalent editing program; compressing video for the web; benefits of YouTube vs. Vimeo; and strong storytelling skills.
