Thursday, November 14
6:00-9:00pm
25 East 13th Street, 5th fl.

Parsons Fine Arts is pleased to announce the Fall 2013 Graduate Open Studios Thursday, November 14th from 6–9pm. Throughout the evening, our exciting group of 44 international artists and candidates for a Master in Fine Arts within the School of Art, Media and Technology will open their creative spaces to the public and will be available to answer questions and discuss their work. Open Studios provide a rare opportunity for the public to view works-in-progress and to meet the artists in an informal setting. Visitors will gain an insight into the diverse practices happening within the Parsons Fine Arts graduate progam, which embrace interdisciplinary experimentation, intellectual rigor, social engagement and artistic innovation. Next to individual studio presentations, there will be an evening length performance program, video screenings and a faculty curated group exhibition.

The BFA Fine Arts Open Studios are also happening the same night, on the 4th floor. Don’t miss this exciting look at both Fine Arts programs!

The MFA at Parsons Fine Arts is a two-year program committed to expanding the formal, intellectual, and conceptual dimensions of emerging artists’ work. The program curriculum centers around interdisciplinary approaches to art, diversity, and the integration of theoretical discourse as an active part of studio practice. It offers one-on-one studio visits, cross disciplinary group critique, medium-specific electives, theoretical approaches, writing and research for studio practice, a seminar in professional practice as well as changing advanced practice courses in a large variety of media and contemporary art issues, addressing our student bodies interest and needs. Those include performance art, eco-literacy, and the intersections between art and politics, art and poetry, and art and feminism. The curriculum as a whole is structured to support students in extending the boundaries of contemporary cultural expression.

Parsons Fine Arts is home to an international and dynamic faculty whose works have been exhibited recently at the Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Documenta 13, and The Sydney Biennale. Students also benefit from interaction with an impressive array of visiting artists and critics who are redefining the cutting edge of art in the 21st century. This year’s guests include: Iran do Espirito Santo, Theaster Gates, Adam Pendelton, Maria Hupfield, Mika Tajima, Taisha Paggett, Sreshta Rit Premnath, Leslie Hewitt, Neil Goldberg, Allora & Calzadilla, Ralph Lemon and David Reed.

Parsons Fine Arts is housed within Parsons The New School for Design, which is one of the world’s leading centers for teaching and research in the fields of art, design and new media. It offers a diverse learning environment where students engage in studio-based research and scholarship to develop a global understanding of the arts. Students have the opportunity to study and collaborate with a wide range of art and design fields, as well as all areas of study across the internationally recognized New School for Social Research, New School for Public Engagement, New School for Drama, and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
