The art exhibition “The Roaming Eye” will open in the Shirley Fiterman Art Center, 81 Barclay Street, with a reception tonight, Tuesday, September 26 from 6 to 8 PM. “The Roaming Eye,” curated by Kathleen Kucka and Jennifer Riley, will be on exhibit through November 11 and feature the work of Allison Blickle, Davide Cantoni, Christopher Deeton, Shirley Kaneda, Kathleen Kucka, Margrit Lewczuk, Judith Linhares, David Rhodes, Jennifer Riley, Russell Roberts and Marc Andre Robinson.

“Vision is our dominant sense. We consume with our eyes and as visual-centric beings we’ve created activities that include image feeds saturated with innumerable pictures of life and art alike. On our devices we scroll — searching for ideas, meaning, inspiration and connection to life. We swipe right for “like” or left for “no thanks” to people and works of art. In this process, images of diverse type and source flow seamlessly in front of our eyes.” —co curators Kathleen Kucka and Jennifer Riley

The collection of works on view in “The Roaming Eye” comes together “as a conversation with a multi-generational group of artists,” the curators’ statement continues. “Surface, shape, line and color are uniting concerns of these eleven artists whose works often fuse together aspects of pure abstraction, figuration or narrative elements. ‘The Roaming Eye’ has cast a wide gaze to bring together large-scale works of art unlikely to be joined together in an exhibition venue. This element of surprise and revelation is what the Roaming Eye has been looking for.”
