Open Performance at movement research

Eden’s Expressway

June 12, 2018

7-8:30 PM

537 Broadway 4th Fl New York, NY 10012

Please join us for a research exercise in authority.

On June 12th, come to Eden’s Expressway in SoHo to witness an unknown performance unfold in real-time, with the help of FM radio transmission. Discussion to follow.

The structure of the performance can be considered a negotiated collaboration, or a collective choreography. Participants from an open-call will listen to instructions on their headphones given by the spectators on the night of the performance. The performers can decide individually in what manner they would like to carry out these instructions.

**Participants include: Julio Roldan, Florian Berger, Christopher Priatno, André Stith, Ryan Glover, Agnik Dasgupta, Freddie Dessau, Sean Woodward, and others.

The participants will, as much as possible, authentically present themselves and be genuinely engaged with the performance. My interest as someone who uses performance to research social relations and probe cultural constructions, is to witness each individual’s unique (and constructed) responses to the given instructions.

Tuesday, June 12th at 7pm (sharp!) Eden’s Expressway, 537 Broadway, 4th floor, NYC Movement Research presents Lindsay Benedict, Jessica Lam, Marissa Moss in OpenPerformance — followed by discussion. Free entrance, $3 donation, wheelchair accessible (with preparations in advance).
