Every year, A Better World by Design hosts a design challenge to encourage creative solutions to social and environmental problems. This year, they have partnered with Dell and Broadband RI to present Connecting the Disconnected. For this competition, they are asking designers to come up with a creative solution to help connect communities both domestically and abroad that have been left out of the growing and important global information exchange.
The prompt is as follows: In the face of the growing digital age, information is exchanged faster and more efficiently than ever before, making way for global economic growth and an improved quality of life. This continuous spread of information is revolutionizing our education, delivery of health care, public safety, social engagement, and distribution of knowledge. However, certain populations are disconnected from these vast opportunities due to educational, economic, or geographical disadvantages.
The winner will receive a $1,000 stipend to carry out their solution as well as mentoring from both of our sponsors. Furthermore, the winner will be celebrated at the A Better World by Design Conference in September and automatically advanced to the semi-finalist round of the Dell Social Innovation Challenge.
