You are invited to to attend a lecture by Communication Design alum Christian Acker, this Thursday at 7pm. He will be discussing his new book about the history of graffiti hand styles.

Book description:

Graffiti is one of the last strongholds of highly refined penmanship. The most reviled and persecuted form of graffiti, the tag, is seldom appreciated for its raw beauty, balance, and skeletal form. Within the pages of Flip The Script, some of the most accomplished writers offer their complete alphabets. Christian Acker presents these lettering samples in a clean, formal manner, evoking classic type specimens & calligraphy manuals.

“Flip the Script: A Guidebook for Aspiring Vandals and Typographers…is an admirably researched oral history and tribute to its rebellious roots.” –New York Times Sunday Book Review, Steven Heller. You can read the full review and history of punk aesthetics here.

Books and merch will be for sale and there may be a guest vandal or two.

Thursday, May 9th at 7pm
66 West 12th St, room A404.
