The New School’s Communications and External Affairs office (CEA) seeks a student with strong front-end programming skills to
assist the Online Media department in supporting The New School’s substantial public web presence.
The student web assistant will work under the supervision of the Director of Online Media and alongside the professional online
media web producers. This is a great opportunity for a student with front-end scripting skills to further this skill-set with in-house
agency-style experience. CEA student assistants are an integral part of the department and, as such, their input is valued and
appreciated.
Responsibilities:
• Update and maintain content of multiple websites
• Organize and create website structures in our Content Management System (CMS)
• Program functionality for specific site components as defined by the director and web producers
• Create analytics reports (Google)
• Research and report on emerging technologies, best practices, etc. as specified by the Director
• Site testing
Requirements
• Self-starter, personable, flexible, organized, dependable, and proactive
• Analytical thinker and create problem-solver
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with:
• HTML: An applicable understanding of tags and their use in Dreamweaver (we will provide training on our CMS)
• Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and its limitations (must have a core understanding of how to transform CSS layouts
into pure HTML)
• Basic application of JavaScript
• Dreamweaver CS4
• Microsoft Office Suite
• Animation using Flash and ActionScript is a plus
The web student assistant and the Director of Online Media will work out a schedule that is conducive to both, but one that
could be flexible for fewer or more hours depending on academic calendar and need. The job requires a weekly minimum
commitment of 12 hours and may be available up to 20 hours per week. This is a year-round job and additional hours may be
available in the summer. Payment is $12 -$15/hour, commensurate with applicant’s experience and skill level.
