The university has implemented a new process for soliciting commencement speaker nominations this year.
This is a competitive process, juried by a group of New School staff, faculty, and alumni. We are looking for a student who embodies and can project the best qualities and core values of a New School education, and can deliver concise and compelling remarks that will resonate with and inspire the graduating class. In addition, we are on a relatively tight timeline, and this process will require you to respond quickly throughout.
- Application deadline: Thursday, March 20, 5:00 p.m.
*Complete online form (accessible only from your newschool.edu account), telling us about yourself and ideas for your speech
- Finalists notified: by Monday, March 31
- Speaker announced: by Friday, April 11
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must have petitioned to graduate
- Must have GPA of at least 3.7
- Must have outstanding disciplinary record
- Must identify two faculty members and/or administrators who know you well and who could support your candidacy
- The ideal Commencement speaker will be someone who has engaged actively with the life and culture of The New School and New York City; e.g., through projects, community or global opportunities, clubs or organizations, volunteering and activism.
