Ben Coonley to Speak in Experimental Video Class

Adriana Farmiga is holding a guest artist lecture in her Experimental Video class. Ben Coonley is a video and performance artist who uses comedy and direct audience address to overturn everyday conventions of media culture and tweak avant-garde histories. His works have been presented at festivals and venues including PS1’s “Greater New York: Cinema” (2010), Performa 09, the New Museum for Contemporary Art, The 2nd Moscow Biennale, International Film Festival Rotterdam and the New York Underground Film Festival. Coonley studied Art Semiotics at Brown University, and received an MFA from Bard College in 2002. He has taught at Bard College, Princeton University, the New School Media Studies MA Program and Parsons The New School for Design. He lives in Brooklyn.
