People’s Production House (PPH) is seeking a game designer/developer familiar with the open source code for the ARIS Games platform to collaborate with on an upcoming project and future programming initiatives. PPH is a NYC-based media arts institute that pairs artists, journalists, and technologists with low-wage workers, teens and youth to produce ground-breaking media. The project is an interactive scavenger hunt that will be featured in an exhibition at the New York Hall of Science launching in mid October.

We are seeking collaborators to help us further develop the graphic functionality of the ARIS platform to include augmented layered graphics and animation, similar to the graphics functionality of LayAR. The project time frame is now until the end of August 2012. You will be working alongside our current game designer who has a background in iOS programming for mobile games and in close contact with the ARIS development team. We are currently seeking additional funding but can compensate based on skill level and whether you can take the lead on further developing the platform. We can also offer internships for interested students.

Partners on this project include REV-, a non-profit organization dedicated to socially-engaged art, design, and pedagogy; People’s Production House, a media arts institute that pairs artists, journalists, and technologists with low-wage workers, immigrants, and young people to produce ground-breaking media seen and heard at cultural venues (museums, festival) and media outlets (The Nation, Mother Jones to BBC, NPR, and PBS Newshour).
