Apprentice Museum Educator Application 2014-2015 

What is the Apprentice Museum Educator program? 

The Apprentice Museum Educator (AME) Work-Study Program at the Rubin Museum of Art provides essential hands-on skills to university students preparing for future careers in arts or museum education. The unique exhibitions at the Rubin Museum provide opportunities for Apprentices to learn and engage audiences through the interrelation of the art and culture of Himalayan Asia.

Program participants will leave with an understanding of the inner workings of the Museum’s Education Department, Himalayan art and culture, as well as public engagement and education skills that will prepare them for the future. Apprentices are prepared to utilize inquiry-based teaching strategies and receive education on content and pedagogy. Apprentice duties include giving tours to incoming school groups, administrative support for teen programs, assisting with teen programs, and helping plan college events.

What are the requirements? 

• Participants must be enrolled in an undergraduate College or University in New York City (Education majors or strong interest in a future career in arts or education encouraged)
• Provide services for two consecutive semesters (Fall and Spring)
• Work 15 hours per week
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Photo I.D.
•  Social Security Card
• Have an e-mail address and check it regularly

Applications are due no later than Friday, June 27, 2014. 

Late applications will not be accepted. Program will start in early October 2014 and run through the end of May 2015. Depending on school requirements, program participants may utilize participation for school credit.

Is this a paid position? 

Apprentice Museum Educators receive a monthly stipend discussed at the time of interviews.
