Aperture Foundation, in collaboration with the Photography Program at Parsons the New School for Design, is pleased to present a talk and book signing with artistElinor Carucci. A longtime artisan of the personal documentary image, Carucci’s photographs delve into the fissures and camaraderie of family. In an early series, Comfort, Carucci turned the lens on her parents, describing the hereditary aspects of her own identity. Another series, Closer, depicts a marriage fraught with infidelity and addiction. Carucci’s recent publicationMother (2013) documents the lives of her children, in a collection of images wrought using Carucci’s characteristic tactility with delicately personal subjects.

Elinor Carucci (born in Jerusalem, 1971) received a BFA from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Israel, in 1995, after which she relocated to New York City. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including solo shows at Edwynn Houk Gallery, New York; Gagosian Gallery, London; James Hyman Gallery, London; and group shows at Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Photographers’ Gallery, London, among many others. Her photographs are collected by museums worldwide, including Brooklyn Museum; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; International Center of Photography, New York; and Museum of Modern Art, New York. Her third monograph, Mother(Prestel, 2013), follows two others: Closer (Chronicle, 2002) and Diary of a Dancer (Steidl, 2005). Currently, Carucci teaches in the graduate program at School of Visual Arts, New York.
