Photo Alum Lia Barrett has made freedivers the subject of a recent series of photos, a project that is getting a lot of attention. freedivers are extreme athletes who plumb the depths of the ocean on a single breath of air, often more than 100 meters, without the use of oxygen tanks.
According to the CNN.com piece, “the picture above of two men having coffee by a lamp — featuring Tunisian freediving champion Walid Boudhiaf and Caribbean Cup organizer Esteban Darhanpe — took 50 minutes to create, with the men receiving oxygen from standby assistants around every three minutes.”
