Caspar Lam is the co-founder of Synoptic Office, a multidisciplinary studio operating in the space between design, technology and education. The studio’s work has been exhibited internationally and recognized by Fast Company, iDn, Neshan, Etapes, and It’s Nice That. Caspar holds an MFA from Yale and degrees in biology and design from the University of Texas at Austin. His work with cultural and fashion clients includes the Guggenheim Museum, Ohne Titel, and Vogue China, and Adobe, AIGA, and ID Annual Design Review have recognized his work. Previously, Caspar led design and digital strategy for Artstor, an Andrew Mellon Foundation-funded non-profit to develop digital products related to metadata and publishing for institutions such as Harvard and Cornell. He has been a visiting critic at the Hong Kong Design Institute and served as an Adjunct Associate Research Scholar at Columbia University’s GSAPP. He currently teaches at Parsons the New School for Design.

Andrew Shurtz is a graphic designer, educator, and researcher based in New York City. He is a co-founder of the international design collective We Have Photoshop, which celebrated its tenth anniversary this year. He also co-founded Convolution, a conceptual journal dedicated to exploring the intersections of experimental criticism, poetry, art and typography. He has taught design at Parsons since 2011, and currently teaches typography, book design, and contemporary graphic design theory. He has previously taught courses at Rutgers University and City College of New York and served as a visiting critic at Yale University, NYU ITP, and The University of Connecticut. He is the recipient of ten AAUP awards for book design and the Yale School of Art’s Phelps Berden Award. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana State University and his Master of Fine Arts from Yale University.

Jack Henrie Fisher is a graphic designer, writer, and publisher whose work makes interventions in conditions of reading and writing across a spectrum of technologies and platforms. His recent projects have investigated, with a variety of interlocutors, the shifting senses of language as a technologically and politically mediated material. His work seeks to locate or create positions from which the designer is compelled—or compels another—to speak. Currently a partner in Other Forms, an office for design and publishing, Jack previously worked as a design researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, Netherlands and as a designer at Bruce Mau Design in Chicago.

Kelly Walters is a designer and educator whose work investigates the intersection of black cultural vernacular in mainstream media. She feels her role as a designer is to understand how socio-political frameworks and shifting technology influence the sounds, symbols and style of black people. She has worked as a designer for SFMOMA, the RISD Museum, Alexander Isley, and Blue State Digital. She has produced websites, digital social campaigns, books and other printed matter for clients such as: Google Fiber, Google for Entrepreneurs, FairTrade USA, Hillel International, and PayPal. From 2015–2016, she was awarded an Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design (AICAD) Post-Graduate Teaching Fellowship in the Graphic Design program at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Kelly received dual degrees at the University of Connecticut, earning a BFA in Communication Design and a BA in Communication Sciences. She completed her MFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Kelly is currently an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Connecticut.
