SYPartners is hiring an Interaction Designer and Visual Interaction Designer

OPPORTUNITY #1: SENIOR INTERACTION DESIGNER

The Interaction Designer designs simple, human-centered experiences ranging from mobile, web, and desktop applications to digital+physical environments. You passionately pursue the art and science of engagement—exploring the motivations and interactions that lead us to see, believe, think, and act differently, defining the fundamental design principles and patterns of meaningful engagement at scale (large numbers of people), and designing the tangible expression of these principles in workflows, interfaces, and experiences.

You bring a deep understanding of technology (i.e. HTML5/CSS3, Javascript) and what can be done with it—and you have a creative vision and aspiration for what it could do, if pushed. You employ tried-and-true techniques (i.e. rich media storytelling) and emergent ones (i.e. game mechanics) to create emotional connections and deeper participation.

You understand that true innovation does not always come from focus groups, ethnographic research, and user feedback. As Henry Ford said, “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” So you rely on your experience, expertise, and intuition to imagine entirely new models of interactions which you then prototype, refine, and improve through user testing and agile design.

You are continually asking—and answering—the question, “What does an SYP application uniquely behave and perform like?”

You have deep empathy and aspiration for those you design for—and those you design with. You are highly collaborative, working side-by-side with other designers, strategists, developers, production artists, and project managers.

Your responsibilities include:
Research and develop solutions for the mobile, web, desktop, environments, and other emerging platforms.
Design projects that connect the potential of emerging technologies.
Create user requirements specifications, personas, use cases, workflow diagrams, wireframes, storyboards, and design prototypes.
Build a uniquely-SYP interaction pattern library and design guidelines.
Communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, technical concepts, detailed design, and design with clarity and coherence.
Prototype low and high fidelity concepts—from paper-based to interactive. Ideally with an ability to prototype and think directly in a technology (i.e. HTML5/CSS3).
Work closely with development teams— from prototypes to packaged products—to ensure that design specifications are implemented.
Evangelize the discipline within SYP and to clients.

OPPORTUNITY #2: SENIOR VISUAL INTERACTION DESIGNER

The Visual Interaction Designer intensely focuses on designing visually-arresting, emotionally-compelling experiences across mobile, web, desktop applications and digital+physical environments.

On one side, you draw on your love of typography, color, graphic design, and information design to distill complex problems into their simplest, most compelling, and delightful visual form. On the other side, you think in all three dimensions—from the height and width of small mobile devices or large-scale interactive walls to the depth created by dynamic, interactive information spaces. You consider the behaviors of a visual system (i.e. how a button works) as much as you consider the visual elegance of the system (i.e. how a button looks).

You recognize patterns in our work—the intent of our work, the interactions we create and shape—and establish visual guidelines and expressions of those interactions (i.e. pattern libraries and design specifications). You are continually asking—and answering—the question, “What does an SYP application uniquely look like, feel like, behave like?”

You have deep empathy and aspiration for those you design for—and those you design with. You are highly collaborative, working side-by-side with other designers, strategists, developers, production artists, and project managers.

Your responsibilities include:
Design high-fidelity, interfaces for mobile, web, desktop, environments, and other emerging platforms.
Create a uniquely-SYP visual design system and pattern library for our digital products and services.
Create wireframes, storyboards, and high-fidelity design prototypes.
Communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, technical concepts, detailed design, and design with clarity and coherence.
Work closely with development teams— from prototypes to packaged products—to ensure that design specifications are implemented.
Evangelize the discipline within SYP and to clients.

CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

This is what we can tell you would mean to embrace our world of SYPartners. You would be joining a movement. We truly believe we are defining new territory. We are devoted to helping our clients design their future. You would bring a systemic approach to engaging them in greatness. Your passion counts. Your skill counts. Your leadership counts. It would mean you would have to tap into new ways of thinking in ways you haven’t even considered yet. You would be joining a collective. You would be at the core of a vibrant and nurturing community of talented individuals who care about you beyond your output. You would have to learn. The skills that have made you successful in the past will be handy here, but they only represent a part of what you will ultimately learn from working here. You know about the high standards we set.

We demand of ourselves to become this great fusion of left brain and right brain thinking. Hopefully, in each of us, the humility to learn never ends. You will invent, and to design more than things: conversations, epiphanies, mindset-shifts, clarity, as well as amazing products and services and spaces that work. You would join a team that has no tolerance for politics, hierarchy, ego, or traditional thinking.

We are about original thinking. Beauty is in our soul, but never our only goal.

ABOUT SYPARTNERS

SYPartners is a premier consultancy that engages with CEOs and leadership teams to design their future. SYPartners engages at times of significant change—a new leadership team, a competitive threat, a merger, a desire to set a new growth agenda, the launch of an innovation, an opportunity to vitalize a brand. In these times, a new approach is needed—one defined by creativity, systems thinking, and humanity.

This is how SYPartners works alongside leaders. We forge a compelling purpose and vision for their organization. Chart their strategy. Create the conditions for people to show up as their best selves—building their capability and belief by working in new ways. And define—and then bring to life—the rare ideas and market-making moves that become their organization’s future. The outcome of the work is not just better performing companies, but companies that can constantly transform themselves at scale to attain greatness.

SYPartners has engaged with CEOs and their teams who believe that leadership is an act of courage and clarity, including those at Apple, Blackstone, Charles Schwab, The Coca-Cola (Japan) Company, Deloitte, Facebook, General Electric, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Nike, Starbucks, and Target.

Fifteen years ago, SYPartners set out to single-mindedly pursue our vision of a unique company, with a truly different way of working. Although we started small, we created a cooperative approach for helping our clients envision, believe in, and fight for greatness in their work and their organizations —and over time, we earned the invitation to focus on bigger issues, at a larger scale.

The challenges we tackle today are more complex than they were in 1994, or 2000, or 2004. But our focus hasn’t changed: We’re still obsessed with tough problems, committed to a systemic approach, and guided by a belief that it’s all about the “and.” Strategy and design. Empathy and aspiration. Systems thinking and creativity. SYP and our clients, cooperating to learn, create, and solve the challenges that will transform their organizations.

Creators of radical output–Design as innovation. Often times, innovation takes material form. Designers play a crucial role in the creation of materials, products, environments, films, publications, spaces, and bringing full passion, original thinking and experience to ensure what SYPartners creates is indeed innovative and excellent.
