Esri, a $1B, privately held, mapping software company based in southern California is looking for a really excellent Information Designer to work on information designs and information graphics for our web and mobile mapping apps. These apps incorporate thousands and thousands of variables about the people, places and businesses that live in the area. The challenge is making what’s important about an area immediately obvious. The company is financially stable and growing.

Information Designer, Southern California, Redlands
Esri, the leader in geographic information systems and mapping technology for business and government, is looking for an enthusiastic, creative & talented individual who is trained and educated in the field of information design and information graphics, and who has proven skills in user interface design and human factors.

The Job:
Design engaging, dynamic & intuitive information graphics for web and mobile business mapping apps (iPhone/iPad/Android). These apps provide access to vast amounts of spatially related data on consumers, lifestyles and businesses that must be presented in such a way to make the important facts & trends immediately obvious. Your primary job is to make the relevant information clear, engaging and enlightening, so that users can make great decisions quickly and effectively, while having fun doing it.

The Environment:
Work alongside a small, tightly knit team of other user experience designers, product managers and product engineers. You need to be agile, nimble and work under tight deadlines. Access to the best creative design tools & technology is a given.

Key Requirements / Experience:
Strong education/training in information graphics, information design & information display, a la Tufte
Experience in creating, clear, engaging information graphics involving maps or mapping of data a big plus
Strong, demonstrated understanding of user-centered design methodology
Knowledge of usability assessment techniques including usability heuristics, cognitive walkthrough and lab-based usability testing
Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills
Detail oriented & focused on clarity of information flow
Able to work in a collaborative team environment
Exceptional communication and presentation skills
Excellent knowledge of and graphic design tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator
Knowledge of Flash, Director and/or AfterEffects for developing visual prototypes a plus
Basic knowledge of CSS
Strong knowledge of Web 2.0 design principles
Strong portfolio of information graphics and information design work is a must
