Parsons is pleased to present a conversation between Mickey Drexler, chairman and CEO of J.Crew group, and Paul Goldberger, Joseph Urban Professor of Design at Parsons The New School for Design, to celebrate the School of Fashion’s move downtown.

Monday,
January 27
6:00–7:00 pm
John L. Tishman Auditorium
University Center, 63 Fifth Avenue

This will be the inaugural public program at The New School’s new University Center, which opens this month. The event will also mark the relaunch of the “At the Parsons Table” lecture series, which invites renowned designers, artists, and architects from across the globe to participate in conversations with Goldberger.

New York Magazine once wrote that Millard “Mickey” Drexler, “could be argued [to have] invented casual chic.” As the CEO of the Gap in the 1990s, Drexler reinvented the brand’s look and message and in the process democratized impeccable style. Since becoming Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of J.Crew Group, Inc. (J.Crew) in January 2003, he has revolutionized that brand, as well, turning it into one of America’s most respected and reliable upscale style labels. Mr. Drexler has served on the board of Warby Parker since September 2013 and on the board of Teach for America, Inc. since October 2011.

Paul Goldberger is the Joseph Urban Professor of Design at Parsons, a Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic, and contributing editor at Vanity Fair. From 1997-2011, he served as the architecture critic for the New Yorker, where he wrote the magazine’s “Sky Line” column. He began his career at the New York Times and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Distinguished Criticism in 1984. He is the author of several books, most recently Why Architecture Matters, and Building Up and Tearing Down: Reflections on the Age of Architecture, a collection of his architecture essays, both published in 2009; and Christo and Jeanne-Claude, published in 2010.
