PROTOTYPE: AN EXHIBITION IN THE CLOUD
Sheila C. Johnson Design Center
Arnold and Sheila Aronson Galleries
November 9 – November 20, 2012
Prototype: An Exhibition in the Cloud, is an interdisciplinary collaborative project between the Parsons School of Art, Media and Technology (AMT) and the Media Arts department from University of the Arts in Berlin.
Prototyping is typically the foundation of any design-based practice; this workshop, however, seeks to subvert that tradition by means of a variety of artistic interventions. The project seeks to create a shared learning and production environment, a space for cross-pollination that is truly global, one not tied to a single geographic location. All research and outcomes produced during the project will be uploaded to the cloud and then later downloaded and produced for the exhibition in Aronson using a variety of devices including rapid prototyping equipment, laser-cutters, hi-end photographic printers, and a variety of variety of other digital and analog means and methods.
The show is conceived in a way that transcends boundaries, borders, and customs and is meant to be a prototype itself, one that can be copied, reproduced on-demand anywhere in the world. The show will be downloaded and manifested in Berlin in January of 2013 and then possibly in Shanghai and Paris later next year.
