The List, a Fashion Vendory Directory

In the fall of 2009, over 30 students from Julia Gorton’s AAS GD 1 and CD PRINT 1 researched small vendors in NYC’s Garment Center. Inspired by an article in WWD about the loss of many businesses due to outsourcing. This project was designed as a means to connect fashion students and young designers with a variety of amazing local resources. Involving cold calls, site visits, research, writing and editing, photography, as well as layout design, this project encompassed many real life skills needed as a designer. The List was encouraged and supported by Simon Collins, the Dean of Fashion, and Francesca Sammaritano from the School of Fashion, who supplied us with contacts we wouldn’t have otherwise had.

The entire pdf of this book, THE LIST, a Fashion Vendor Directory [194p] can be found as a free online resource at the following link:

Volume 2 is nearing completion and includes 17 addition vendors. From custom leather workers, to a hand knitter and a vintage fabric resource library, we’ve worked on diversifying our suppliers. Vendors for fall 2010 are being gathered now, if you know anyone who would be interested in being contacted for possible inclusion, please post their info in comments.
