Hank Willis Thomas

Co-sponsored by Public Art Fund and Vera List Center for Art and Politics, Thomas’s conceptually-based practice addresses the relationships between identity, media, and popular culture through sculpture, installation, photography, and performance. By appropriating and re-contextualizing common symbols, objects, and brands, he points to the assumptions and biases that frame our experience of public space, others, and ourselves. Recent solo exhibitions include The Museum of Contemporary Art, Ford Lauderdale; Goodman Gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa;  International Center for Photography, New York; Brooklyn Museum, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C..
