Valerie Piraino

Valerie Piraino is an East African sculptor. Her creative path has been revealed through challenges unique to black incarnation, in a life marked by trial and purpose. Her focus on people of African descent expands through time and worlds, embracing different lifestyles, traditions, and ways of being. She seeks clear communication between her physical self and all subtle bodies. She has shared and created her work in recent exhibitions and residencies including, the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans, the Wassaic Project Editions Program in New York’s Hudson Valley, Offshore Residency sailing in coastal Maine, the Third Line Gallery in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and a commission reflecting on grief with Socrates Sculpture Park in New York City.
