This summer, the Guggenheim museum in New York City presents Storylines: Contemporary Art, which includes Parsons Fine Arts Faculty Gerard & Kelly’s Timelining, a piece performed in 2014 at The Kitchen and later acquired by the institution for its growing performance collection. Performances of Timelining — which take place on Monday evenings (5:45 p.m. to 10 p.m.) at the museum through September 7 — features a series of paired performers involved in close relationships: romantic, familial, or otherwise.

Brennan Gerard and Ryan Kelly (Performing Genders)
Collaborating since 2003, Gerard and Kelly approach art as a series of experiments to work through questions of spectatorship, desire, authorship, and the formation of political consciousness. They recently completed their MFA’s in the Interdisciplinary Studio program at the University of California, Los Angeles, and graduated from the Whitney Independent Study Program in 2010.Gerard received a BA from Yale University in 2001, and Kelly was a dancer with New York City Ballet, receiving a BA from Fordham University in 2008. Their hybridized works—combining performance, choreography, text, sound, and video—draw from a wide range of discourses to articulate alternatives to a world entertained 24/7 by spectacle and celebrity culture. Their work has been shown in New York at The Kitchen, Art in General, Park Avenue Armory, Volta Art Fair, Burning Bridges, Prelude 08 Festival, Whitney Museum of American Art, EFA Project Space, Chez Bushwick, Dixon Place, Dance New Amsterdam, and Works & Process at the Guggenheim Museum, as well as internationally. Gerard and Kelly are the founders and co-directors of Moving Theater.
