Aesthetic situations in the works of TheGreenEyl
Typically, visual communication, and visualization in particular, aim for an objective, explicit representation of information to let viewers explore and absorb knowledge.
The works of TheGreenEyl expand on this notion by inviting the audience to “become part of the picture”. The playful and often metaphorical situations they create aim to provide an aesthetic point of entry into knowledge. By letting the viewer complete the work, they yield control to the viewer, hoping to inspire agency, reflection and an alternative understanding.
Richard The and Frédéric Eyl will discuss these strategies in projects ranging from interactive documentaries, networked narrative sound objects to algorithmic branding systems.
Richard The is a graphic and interaction designer. After having studied at University of the Arts Berlin and the MIT Media Lab he has worked at Sagmeister Inc. and Google Creative Lab in New York. Frédéric Eyl holds a master degree of the University of the Arts Berlin and is a founding partner at TheGreenEyl Berlin. Both are currently artists in residents at Eyebeam New York.
Studio TheGreenEyl is a design practice based in Berlin and New York. They create exhibitions, installations, objects, graphics and algorithms. In the past they have developed the algorithmic coporate design for the MIT Media Lab, have created various installations for permanent and special exhibitions at Jüdisches Museum Berlin, Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Grimmwelt Kassel. Their work has been exhibited at the MoMA New York, Ars Electronica in Linz, Bauhaus-Archiv Berlin and at the Design Museum, London.
