RIVER OF FUNDAMENT Seeks Volunteers for Film Shoot

On Saturday, June 29th, Remains, LLC will be filming scenes for RIVER OF FUNDAMENT, an art film collaboration between artist/filmmaker Matthew Barney (Cremaster, Drawing Restraint 9), and composer Jonathan Bepler, which combines cinema with elements of live performance, and opera. The film is loosely based on Norman Mailer’s novel, Ancient Evenings, which is set in ancient Egypt, though told in a very contemporary way. The depiction of Mailer’s Egypt is violent, erotic, and humorous in a way that feels more like a dystopian mafia/family drama set in New York City in the 80’s.

Details:

The shoot will take place in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Exact location and directions will be provided at a later time. You must be in good physical condition and willing to get your feet wet.

Volunteers will need to be positioned on a steep set of stairs (approx. 2’ height per step). Ascending/descending these stairs requires some agility, and may be uncomfortable if you have a fear of heights. The stairs can also be very slippery. You should wear boots or enclosed shoes that can get wet/dirty. Please do not apply if any of this is problematic for you. Your safety is extremely important to us.

You will be asked to participate vocally. You will be functioning as the audience at a performance, and at the same time as the crowd
at the scene of a competitive event. Music director/composer Jonathan Bepler will be directing the crowd to make crowd sounds, cheer on the competitors, and also sing/recite specific phrases. No singing experience is necessary. You must be willing to particpate and lend your voice to the proceedings.

You must be willing to stay for up to 10 hours

We have a lot to film and need your particpation the entire day. We greatly appreciate you donating your time. In return you will receive a limited-edition, signed, and numbered tshirt. We will also raffle off prizes as an incentive for your time.

We will provide lunch. A caterer will prepare boxed lunches for volunteers consisting of sandwiches, sides, and dessert. We’ll have vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. If you prefer to bring food from home just let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.

*Please note, there will NOT be food or drinks available for purchase at our filming site.

The location is outdoors and it will be hot. We’ll have plenty of water and sunscreen to provide. We recommend you do not apply if
you are bothered by spending the day outside in the sun.
