The second annual Amazon Fashion Challenge, a one-day event where design schools compete to produce winning womenswear and menswear fashion editorials, attracted ninety submissions from both the School of Art, Media and Technology (AMT) and the School of Fashion (SoF). The judges, faculty and design experts from both schools, had a tough time narrowing down the submissions to just ten, but here are their final selections for the Parsons teams. This group features serious students of fashion, photography, style and design with grand ambitions and an enormous amount of talent. Together, we look forward to sweeping the competition once again!

WOMENSWEAR TEAM

I am currently a Fashion Designer taking credits in photography and fashion photography. I have Interned for V Agency and Cr Fashion book and have been exposed to creating professional editorials, and art direction for several campaigns such as Dior Homme, Fendi, and Vionnet. I have a strong passion for Photography and creating strong imagery in the context of Fashion. –Orlando Gonzalez, Photographer (SoF / AMT)

I would like to be part of the challenge because I’m very interested in fashion and how graphic design can elevate styling and photography when it comes to the subject. — Ariel Chan, Graphic Designer (AMT)

I have always been interested in styling and fashion editing and I have helped with styling film shoots before. To me, this is a good opportunity to explore something different from fashion design and broaden my horizons of other fields in fashion. Last but not least, working with team members from other areas will be a fun and valuable experience for me.–Xuewei Wang, Wardrobe Stylist (SoF)

I would like to express my talent and share my personal experiences from working for different magazines like GQ China and Cosmopolitan. I am personally into branding, and I think every human being represents his own brand. We are all branding ourselves everyday by choosing different clothes to put on. I have great interest in helping people style themselves, and bringing their character out via clothing. –Ethan Hon, Art Director / Set Designer (SoF)

Last year I had the pleasure of helping drive the menswear team into victory with our nomadic Idea of a walkabout. The Amazon competition was a great experience. Before I began my design studies, I worked as a stylist. I had almost forgotten how exciting it is to be given the challenge of creating an entire shoot from beginning to end in such a short period of time. I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with others under pressure to deliver something fresh, new and extraordinary. This year I would love to jump into the women’s wear team and do my best to win another one for Parson’s. –Blair Moore, Fashion / Accessories Editor (SoF)

MENSWEAR TEAM

I’d like to be part of the challenge because I like nothing better than winning awards and prizes. And I am good at it. –Petr Pawlowski, Photographer (AMT)

Photography and graphic design both require a delicate effort to make good quality design work.  I would love to create an identity design for menswear. –Somin Kim, Graphic Designer (AMT)

Visual creation plays a vital role in affecting the systems of style, trend and marketing, so intrinsic to the fashion business – and I love that I get the chance to be a part of it!–Jonathan Goh, Wardrobe Stylist (SoF)

I have assisted a variety of art and design editorial campaigns; some of them advertising, storytelling, and pure creation. Recently, I finished an editorial for GQ China. The project was aiming to mix major brands with young talent. I resourced many of my designer friends and styled their design items with classic clothing. We shot them at an old house upstate. The combination of new and old looked modern and exciting. This year, I really want to be a part of the Amazon Fashion community. Together, we can imagine, improvise and create some excellent works.
–Duo Lin, Art Director/ Set Designer (SoF)

I would like to be a part of this challenge because I believe it is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with a group of people who have expertise in different areas of fashion, and bring together these aspects to create a whole picture. I feel that I will be able to gain a wide breath of experience and knowledge of fashion editorials. –Jennifer Lee, Fashion / Accessories Editor (SoF)
